About 1941: Counter Attack
Imperial forces threaten the skies over the North Atlantic, requiring players to pilot aircraft in a vertical scrolling shooter. Engaging enemy airplanes allows for the collection of weapon power-ups to increase firepower. This title supports both single player and co-operative modes, tasking players with intercepting aerial threats across various combat encounters.
Player layout in our catalog: 2P sim.

1941: Counter Attack — play guide
Mission profile for 1941: Counter Attack
1941: Counter Attack is Capcom’s vertical WWII shooter sequel energy—pilot your plane through intense bullet patterns, collect power-ups, and survive stages that punish greedy hits. Your objective in 1941: Counter Attack is stage clears with bomb (or equivalent panic) discipline and rank awareness: the game gets meaner when you stay powered and aggressive. Shoot the formations that threaten your lane first; bosses are pattern exams, not DPS races.
First minutes in 1941: Counter Attack
Start 1941: Counter Attack focused on movement speed and hitbox honesty—your plane is smaller than the sprite suggests. Collect early power-ups, but do not chase a pod through a bullet stream. Learn the bomb timing on the first mid-boss: bombs are for panic clears and pattern resets, not for finishing every small plane. 1941: Counter Attack rewards weaving in small circles more than long horizontal strafe habits from slower shmups.
Power, bombs, and rank
1941: Counter Attack’s loop is power-up routing plus bomb management under rising difficulty. Dying often drops power—play to keep a mid power level rather than gambling for max if you cannot handle the rank. Bombs erase bullets and deal burst damage; save at least one for boss phases you have not memorized. Formation enemies telegraph lanes; clear the ones that cut off your escape pocket. When the screen fills, move less but earlier—commit to a pocket before bullets close the door. Two-player mode shares the chaos; call bombs so you do not double-spend.
Scoring versus surviving in 1941
Score in 1941: Counter Attack favors destruction chains and clean stage bonuses, but early credits should prioritize life count. Continues while learning boss loops are fine; one-credit runs start when you can clear mid-game without panic-bombing every wave. Extends usually sit on score thresholds—survive long enough to reach them by not suicide-chasing medals through dense patterns.
Shooter mistakes specific to 1941: Counter Attack
1941: Counter Attack mistakes: tunnel-visioning a power-up; bombing the first scary wave and arriving at the boss empty; hugging the bottom edge with no escape angle; and treating bosses as spray-and-pray. Also: dying at max power repeatedly and fighting the recovery. Fix by practicing one boss with bombs reserved, then reducing bomb use as the pattern becomes readable.
After 1941: Counter Attack
After 1941: Counter Attack, play 1943: The Battle of Midway for Capcom’s earlier vertical war shooter with energy/charge flavor, or 19XX: The War Against Destiny for a later polished Capcom vertical. R-Type teaches horizontal memorization if you want a different axis. Keep 1941 as your bomb-discipline trainer under Capcom vertical peeks. Clear one full stage carefully before you chase vanity loops again on later Capcom war boards.
