About Anteater
The anteater navigates through maze-like anthills, extending its tongue to consume ants and ant larvae. Players must clear every round dot representing larvae before the timer expires to advance to subsequent stages. Precision is required during movement, as contact with any part of the tongue other than its tip results in being bitten by the ants.

Anteater — play guide
What Anteater wants from you
Anteater is maze dig: tongue honesty, ant peeks, and retreat timing decide boards more than greed digs. Your job is reading ant paths before you commit a long tongue—chasing every nest as if enemies forgave empties lives fast. Continues buy tongue literacy, not free boards. Anteater rewards short peeks with exits and planned retreats over vanity full-nest greed. Clear boards with composure left; the chrome sells cartoon digs, but the exam is maze timing you learn cold.
First minutes in Anteater
On the first screen, practice short tongue dips into safe tunnels before inventing full-length tourism through every ant trail. Retract the moment a threat enters your line; greed for one more ant while an enemy closes is a classic death. Early boards are route labs under anteater dressing. One clean clear with composure left beats three full-extension deaths that looked high-scoring until the tunnel closed on you.
Core systems in Anteater
Tongue extend/retract, tunnel layouts, ant patterns, enemy scripts, and screen clears define Anteater. Continues fund denser mazes as later boards tighten. Full extensions are commitments—waste them into crowded lanes and you meet threats mid-tongue. Enemies punish frozen retract habits after you skipped every safe dip. Survival route choice gates every zoo fantasy the cabinet sells. Max-extend religion is still a trapped tongue with extra ant sparkle.
Score, continues, and resources in Anteater
Screens cleared with lives left beat ant tourism that empties resources mid-tongue. Continues while retract composure builds; cut them once full-extension deaths stop. Score waits until short dips and safe retracts feel boring under pressure. Extends follow score when present—clean clears beat farming screen one forever for vanity ants you cannot keep after a panic extend.
Mistakes that burn credits in Anteater
Max-length tourism into crowded tunnels, late retracts, ignoring enemy entry, and freezing mid-tongue for vanity ants are classic Anteater mistakes. Dip short, retract early, clear lanes, then extend deeper. Zoo art will not shorten a tongue you overcommitted. Treating every tunnel as a free buffet is how Stern-era boards collect the next credit.
Next steps after Anteater
Dig Dug is Namco tunnel control if you want related underground literacy after Anteater. Lady Bug is maze pacing when you need clearer gate timing under insect density and tighter corridors. Frogger is lane timing once Anteater retract honesty finally sticks and you want crossing stress without tongue physics. Keep playing until panic-dash empties stop ending sessions mid-board on later mazes. Clear one full board carefully before you chase vanity tongues again on denser maze cabinets.
