About Blasteroids (rev 4)
Mukor serves as the final boss asteroid that players must destroy after clearing all sectors of asteroids and enemy ships. Navigating through one of four initial vortices transports the player to a specific sector within a star system. Gameplay requires clearing these various sectors to progress toward the final confrontation with the galactic ruler.

Blasteroids (rev 4) — play guide
What Blasteroids wants from you
Blasteroids (rev 4, Atari Games, 1987) is the Asteroids sequel: clear sectors via vortices, fight ships and rocks, face Mukor the boss asteroid before continues empty. Thrust honesty beats spray. Learn rev 4 sector and Mukor tells cold—do not paste original Asteroids charts blindly. Calm first sectors until shield/ship upgrades are narratable; blaster chrome is packaging, not free invulnerability.
First minutes in Blasteroids
First sectors: pick a vortex path, thrust with purpose, learn ship transforms before rush tourism. Power-cycle once so Atari chrome stops looking like original Asteroids. Early sectors teach Blasteroids grammar: planned thrusts before spray routes that die mid-sector when denser rock packs arrive later.
Core systems in Blasteroids
Thrust, rotate, shot, ship transforms, vortices/sectors, Mukor, lives/continues, and Blasteroids UI define the systems. Skill is sector literacy under pressure—not spraying while drifting into rocks. After continues, reconfirm ship form before racing again. Keep a one-sentence sector rule before the second vortex.
Score, continues, and resources in Blasteroids
Sector clears and survival score the run; hits tax continues. Continues are coins. Fewer panic sprays and fewer ignored transforms keep credits alive. Farming early sectors forever without reading denser packs still leaves rev 4 unread. Progress is Atari chrome that no longer forces death loops mid-sector on later boards.
Mistakes that burn credits in Blasteroids
Spray-firing every rock, ignoring ship transforms, never planning vortex paths, tunneling on sparkle while a rock finishes you, and freezing until Mukor fills the screen burn credits. Power-cycling mid-tilt without a plan burns another credit. Next credit: thrust on plan, transform when needed—stop mash tourism for scenery and Mukor panic on later Atari boards.
Next steps after Blasteroids
When Blasteroids sectors clear without constant death loops, compare Asteroids Deluxe deliberately, then return with sector drills on rev 4. Keep playing until panic-spray empties stop ending sessions mid-sector on later boards. Cousin vector cabinets help as contrast after Blasteroids feels automatic—not as escape from sectors you still freeze for chrome. Clear one full sector carefully before you chase vanity spray again.
