About R-Type (World)
Navigate eight challenging levels to reach the Bydo stronghold. Piloting the R-9A Arrowhead, players utilize a specialized beam weapon that increases in strength as the fire button is held. This power meter mechanic allows for devastatingly heavy shots, while the ship's unique weaponry helps navigate through the galaxy to strike back against the Bydo threat.

R-Type (World) — play guide
What R-Type is testing
R-Type is Irem’s legendary horizontal shooter: dock the Force pod, memorize corridors, and survive Bydo biological horrors with precise speed control. Your objective in R-Type is pattern memorization plus Force management—attach for focused fire and shielding angles, detach to place the pod as a turret. Bosses like Dobkeratops are less about reflexes alone and more about knowing the safe lane before the tentacle moves.
First minutes in R-Type
Start R-Type by practicing Force attach/detach on stage 1’s opening scrap. Learn the beam charge: release for stronger shots when the window is safe, but do not tunnel on charging while bullets approach. Hug the speed that lets you micro-adjust—R-Type’s hitbox honesty rewards small moves. Clear the first mid obstacles with Force in front as a shield when appropriate, then reposition for turrets. One credit should end with at least the first boss seen cleanly once.
Force pod, Bits, and memorization
R-Type’s core system is the Force: attach front/back for different coverage, launch it to attack, and recall it. Bits (orbiting helpers) add lanes of fire when powered. Speed-ups are double-edged—too fast and you cannot thread later corridors. Power capsules cycle weapon types; pick the one that matches the upcoming geometry (reflect lasers vs corridors, etc.). Dying drops power dramatically—play for stable Force control over greedy max speed. Every stage in R-Type is a script: dying is data. Trace the safe path verbally if you have to.
Score versus 1CC in R-Type
Score in R-Type exists, but the cultural goal is the one-credit clear. Continues while mapping stages are expected; turn them off when testing memory. Extends help, yet living with Force intact beats farming that kills your power state. Do not empty bombs (if your control map has them) before known panic phases—R-Type bosses often need one emergency clear reserved.
R-Type mistakes
R-Type mistakes: maxing speed too early; leaving Force stranded while you dodge alone; charging beams during bullet hell instead of weaving; and “winging” a stage you have not mapped. Players also sit on the wrong side of Dobkeratops’s tentacle cycle. Fix by practicing one stage until you can narrate the path, then move on. Detach Force with intention, not as a panic fidget.
After R-Type
Gradius is Konami option literacy if R-Type’s force honesty still feels soft—re-learn lane peeks there first under clearer force gospel. Image Fight keeps Irem option company warm on denser vertical boards. Darius is Taito once R-Type survival honesty finally sticks and you want denser zone stress instead of R-Type boards. Force lasts longer once panic-spray freezes stop mid-curtain. Clear one careful stage before vanity sprays return on denser Irem cabinets.
