About Aztarac
Piloting a space tank allows for independent control of the chassis and turret, enabling movement in one direction while aiming in another. Players must defend clustered space outposts from incoming enemy ships to prevent destruction. Activating the long-range scanner with the second button helps locate threats before they reach the central outposts.

Aztarac — play guide
What Aztarac wants from you
Aztarac (Centuri, 1983) is a vector space-tank defender: independent chassis and turret, protect clustered outposts from enemy ships before continues empty. Aim honesty beats spray. Learn chassis/turret split cold—do not paste Battlezone folklore blindly. Calm first arenas until split control is narratable; aztarac chrome is packaging, not free shields.
First minutes in Aztarac
First arenas: practice drive-one-way aim-another, prioritize ships near outposts, ignore scenic bait that invites empty-mag spray. Power-cycle once so Centuri chrome stops looking like Battlezone. Early arenas teach Aztarac grammar: planned aims before spray routes that lose outposts mid-arena when denser ship packs arrive.
Core systems in Aztarac
Chassis drive, independent turret, outposts, enemy ships, lives/continues, and Aztarac UI define the systems. Skill is split-control literacy under pressure—not spraying while the turret faces the wrong way. After continues, reconfirm outpost state before racing again. Keep a one-sentence aim rule before the second arena.
Score, continues, and resources in Aztarac
Outpost survival and arena clears score the run; lost outposts tax continues. Continues are coins. Fewer panic sprays and fewer ignored outpost threats keep credits alive. Farming early arenas forever without reading denser packs still leaves Aztarac unread. Progress is Centuri chrome that no longer forces outpost-loss loops mid-arena on later boards.
Mistakes that burn credits in Aztarac
Spray-firing every silhouette, ignoring outpost priority, never using chassis/turret split, tunneling on scenery while a ship finishes an outpost, and emptying the mag into chrome mid-fight burn credits. Power-cycling mid-tilt without a plan burns another credit. Next credit: outposts first, split aim—stop mash tourism for scenery and ship panic on later Centuri boards.
Next steps after Aztarac
When Aztarac arenas clear without constant outpost losses, compare Battlezone or other tank vector titles deliberately, then return with split-aim drills. Keep playing until panic-spray empties stop ending sessions mid-arena on later boards. Cousin vector tanks help as contrast after Aztarac feels automatic—not as escape from arenas you still spray for chrome. Clear one full arena carefully before you chase vanity spray again.
