About Pulsar

Sega's 1981 arcade title tasks players with navigating a white tank through shifting mazes using a four-way joystick. Shooting single-button projectiles allows you to destroy yellow enemies tracking walls, green enemies moving randomly, and red enemies bouncing off edges. Surviving requires avoiding lethal force-field walls as enemy speed, fire rate, and point values increase with every round.

Open Play on this page to start Pulsar. Keyboard, USB/Bluetooth pads, and the on-screen touch gamepad all work inside the emulator bar. Save states and fullscreen live on that same bar so you can pause mid-session and resume later.

Pulsar — play guide

What Pulsar wants from you

Pulsar (Sega / Gremlin) is an early maze chase with energy peeks: clear mazes with route honesty before continues empty. Route honesty beats rush. Learn Sega / Gremlin Pulsar windows cold—do not paste Pac-Man charts blindly. Calm first mazes until route timing is narratable; pulsar chrome is packaging, not free invulnerability or free maze clears on every board for vanity rushes.

First minutes in Pulsar

First mazes: peek energy and chase paths, clear dots with a plan, ignore scenic bait that invites panic rush. Power-cycle once so Sega / Gremlin chrome stops looking like Pac-Man. Early mazes teach Pulsar grammar: planned routes before rush routes that death-tax mid-maze when denser chase packs arrive on later boards. Hold that grammar before vanity rushes.

Core systems in Pulsar

Move, energy as wired, maze goals, lives/continues, and Pulsar UI define the systems. Skill is route literacy under chase pressure—not rushing every dot into a catch. After continues, reconfirm maze and energy state before racing again. Keep a one-sentence peek-before-rush rule ready before the second maze starts on this Sega / Gremlin set.

Score, continues, and resources in Pulsar

Maze clears and survival score the run; catches and empty energy tax continues. Continues are coins. Fewer panic rushes and fewer ignored peeks keep credits alive. Farming early mazes forever without reading denser chases still leaves Pulsar unread. Progress is Sega / Gremlin chrome that no longer forces death loops mid-maze on later boards, not a pasted clear.

Mistakes that burn credits in Pulsar

Rushing every dot, ignoring energy peeks, never waiting for a clean window, tunneling on scenery while a catch finishes you, and rage-continuing after catch streaks burn credits. Power-cycling mid-tilt without a plan burns another credit. Next credit: peek first, clear on plan—stop mash tourism for scenery and chase panic on later Sega / Gremlin boards.

Next steps after Pulsar

When Pulsar mazes clear without constant catches, compare other early maze chases deliberately, then return with route drills. Keep playing until panic-rush empties stop ending sessions mid-maze on later boards. Cousin maze cabinets help as contrast after Pulsar feels automatic—not as escape from mazes you still rush for chrome. Clear one full maze carefully before you chase vanity routes again.
