About The Punisher
Engage in 2.5D fighting combat within this bootleg export release. Players utilize combat mechanics to battle opponents in a fighter-style format. This specific version is identified by its use of the PIC16C57 chip, distinguishing it from the original Japanese B-Board hardware release.
Player layout in our catalog: 2P sim.
If you are exploring by feel rather than by title, jump from the tags above into the matching genre rooms, or return to the Arcade hall for the full wall.
Open Play on this page to start The Punisher. Keyboard, USB/Bluetooth pads, and the on-screen touch gamepad all work inside the emulator bar. Save states and fullscreen live on that same bar so you can pause mid-session and resume later.
The Punisher — play guide
What The Punisher asks of you
The Punisher (Capcom CPS, 1993) is a two-player run-and-gun brawler: play as Castle or Nick Fury, push through Kingpin’s army, and clear stages with guns, grabs, and environmental weapons. Your objective is to manage ammo and crowd density—empty magazines turn the game into a desperate punch-out. Bosses (Bushwacker, Barracuda, and Kingpin among them) punish greedy reloads and standing in grenade shadows. Treat The Punisher as Capcom’s “shoot when safe, grab when close” hybrid, not a pure Final Fight clone.
Opening habits for The Punisher
Boot The Punisher and learn the dual verbs immediately: fire at mid-range, grab/throw when thugs close the gap. Castle hits harder in close; Fury’s kit favors mobility—pick based on whether you want raw damage or repositioning. On the first docks/street screens, strafe while shooting so you are not a stationary target for knife runners. Pick up crates and improvised weapons when the lane is clear; swinging into three enemies with a pipe while your partner is down wastes the drop. Reload awareness starts here: do not empty the clip into a single punk before a spawn wave.
Guns, grabs, and stage tools
The Punisher’s systems blend shoot-’em-up spacing with belt-scroller grabs. Firearms have limited shots; melee and throws cover the dry magazine. Specials and screen-clear tools exist but are expensive—save them for surrounds or boss phase transitions. Barrels, cars, and stage objects deal chunk damage when used on purpose. Boss tells matter: Bushwacker’s gun-arm patterns want horizontal movement; later bosses mix projectiles with grab frames. In two-player, split lanes—both characters stacking on one thug leaves the other side free to chip you down. Health items are scarce relative to the aggression of the ROM; schedule heals after a wave, not mid-boss panic unless you are about to die.
Score, continues, and ammo economy
Score in The Punisher climbs with defeated enemies and stage clears, but ammo discipline decides whether a credit lasts. Continues while learning Kingpin are expected; one-credit runs need fewer dry-fire moments and cleaner object use. Do not skip guns on the ground to “save them”—a dead player scores nothing. Extends, when awarded, follow score thresholds; play clean rather than farming the opening forever. If you are about to die with a full special and empty clip, dump the special into the densest cluster.
Mistakes that end Punisher credits
Common The Punisher mistakes: standing still while unloading a full mag; ignoring grab range when enemies are already in your face; both players camping the same side; using the special on a lone weak enemy; and eating grenades because you were locked into a reload animation. Also: chasing off-screen kills while your partner is trapped. Fix by practicing “two shots, step, reassess,” then lab one boss’s safe punish, then agree on lane splits in co-op.
After The Punisher
Final Fight is Capcom belt landmark if The Punisher’s spacing honesty still feels soft—re-learn edge clears there first under clearer co-op gospel. Captain Commando keeps Capcom hero company warm on denser kit boards. Knights of the Round is Capcom once The Punisher spacing honesty finally sticks and you want denser mount stress instead of Punisher boards. Crowds thin cleaner once panic-mash specials stop mid-block. Clear one careful stage before vanity specials return on denser Capcom cabinets.
