About Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (4 Players ver UAA)

Arcade Video game published 35 years ago:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (c) 1991 Konami Industry Company, Limited.

The sequel to 1989's hugely successful original, 'Turtles in Time' once more sees the four heroes taking on Shredder and his army. Gameplay remains similar to the original game, but the experience is enhanced further with the obligatory improved graphics and sound effects. 'Turtles in Time' also features a larger variety of levels, as now the battle between good and evil rages across time as the Turtles travel to prehistoric, pirate and Wild West times in their pursuit of the elusive Splinter.

Yet again, Konami's mastery of the genre was in evidence as the manic energy and humour of the cartoon and comic-book series upon which the game is based was captured perfectly.

- TRIVIA -

Turtles in Time was released in March 1991.

This is the only franchise of the so-called 'Ameri-comi Connection' series that had an arcade sequel.

Just like the previous game, it has references which don't come from the TV show in which is mainly based upon. The enemies at 'Skull & Crossbones', Rhazar and Tokka, are the two mutants that Shredder creates to destroy the TMNT in the second movie and the Super Shredder form at 'Technodrome: The Final Shell Shock' also comes from the movie when he tries the mutagen on himself.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time (4 Players ver UAA) — play guide

What Turtles in Time demands

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Konami) is the sequel belt scroller: Leo, Mike, Don, and Raph cut through time-warped stages toward Shredder-era finales under denser Foot crowds than the 1989 game. Pizza discipline and lane control still decide the credit—sequel toys do not refill panic specials. Bosses across eras expect leftover health and composure, not empty special bars from farming purple Foot. Continues fund era literacy, not free pizza farms. Turtles in Time rewards spaced lanes and planned specials over vanity Foot tourism mid-crowd. Clear stages with composure left; the chrome sells time-warp set pieces, but the exam is lane control with less mercy.

First minutes in Turtles in Time

Relearn each turtle’s weapon length on this ROM—hitboxes and feel are close to the first game but not identical under sequel density. On the first street, walk between Foot spawn points instead of standing in them. The special spin still costs health: break a surround, do not farm a single weak Foot. Grab pizza when the screen is calm; eating mid-grab from a boss wastes the heal. In four-player, assign who opens barrels so two turtles are not fighting over one slice while the other two get pinned.

Weapons, pizza, and era bosses

Attack, jump, and a health-cost special remain the verbs; depth is weapon reach plus era-boss tells. Time-warped stages mix familiar Foot patterns with new hazards and named bruisers—do not autopilot 1989 Rocksteady habits into every sequel door. Pizza heals are scarce relative to four-player aggression; schedule eats after a wave. Barrels and breakables hide food and occasional toys—open them when you have a gap. Co-op multiplies stolen pizza and stacked specials into empty air more than any single boss script.

Party survival across eras

Score rewards defeated enemies and stage progress, but survival across eras is the ranking that matters. Continues are normal while learning sequel bosses; one-credit ambitions need fewer panic specials and cleaner pizza timing. In multiplayer, agree practice versus pride so one player dumping coins does not distort learning. Extends follow score milestones when present—do not farm the opening street forever hoping the counter alone will carry later eras.

Mistakes that burn Turtles in Time credits

Center-camping every screen, special-spinning weak Foot, ignoring a downed turtle while chasing score, eating pizza at full health, stacking all four on one enemy, and autopiloting 1989 boss habits into sequel patterns are the usual sinks. Per credit, pick one focus: check both edges, then save specials for surrounds only, then lab one era boss’s punish window.

After Turtles in Time

When Turtles in Time stages clear without constant surrounds, compare TMNT and The Simpsons deliberately for Konami belt contrast, then return with slash drills on the denser boards that still tax you. Death streaks shrink once panic-mash specials stop mid-block. Cousin Konami belt cabinets help as contrast after Turtles in Time feels automatic—not as escape from stages you still mash for chrome. Clear one careful stage before vanity specials return on denser Konami boards.
